{"id":6582,"date":"2023-06-13T13:31:07","date_gmt":"2023-06-13T19:31:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.flatironcorp.com\/?p=6582"},"modified":"2023-06-16T10:46:42","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T16:46:42","slug":"flatiron-engineers-educational-outreach-efforts-in-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flatironcorp.com\/news\/flatiron-engineers-educational-outreach-efforts-in-california\/","title":{"rendered":"Flatiron Engineers Educational Outreach Efforts in California"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Flatiron construction engineers shared their knowledge at four educational institutions in Northern California during the fall semester.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>At the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), construction engineers Nick Marchini and Jacob Kern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flatironcorp.com\/news\/flatiron-engineers-teach-civil-engineering-at-uc-berkeley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">returned to teach<\/a> \u201cCivil Engineering 190: Special Topics in Heavy Civil Construction.\u201d Topics included formwork design, falsework design and crane lift planning. Like the spring semester, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebeavers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\">The Beavers Educational Trust<\/a> sponsored the fall course.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Operations manager Robert Ferrouge joined the UCB class to share how Flatiron projects use these engineering skills. Says Robert:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;It\u2019s essential to help students connect their technical education with practical applications in the construction industry, so they can visualize their potential career interests and see that engineering happens in construction too. I\u2019m appreciative that Flatiron engineering manager Jamie Dodd empowers her staff of construction engineers to teach the next generation through these enhanced modules.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>At California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, construction engineer Edmundo Salgado taught the falsework module for \u201cConstruction Management (CM) 436: Heavy Civil Temporary Structures and Shoring\u201d course.
