Helping people and families who face tough times is so important, especially during the holiday season. The simple act of donating a toy, can of soup, pair of socks or children\u2019s book can put a smile on someone\u2019s face.<\/p>\n

Here are some Flatiron giving campaigns from across North America.<\/p>\n

Canada<\/h2>\n

Making a donation to Backpack Buddies<\/p><\/div>\n

Vancouver, B.C.<\/strong> offices and project teams donated food items to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank<\/a> and Backpack Buddies<\/a>, toys were given to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau<\/a>, and Flatiron made monetary donations as well.<\/p>\n

Colorado District Donations<\/p><\/div>\n

Flatiron\u2019s Colorado<\/strong> District office hosted two holiday drives for the Denver area. Team members delivered toys to Children\u2019s Hospital Colorado in Aurora<\/strong> and Integrated Pediatric Therapy Center in Greeley<\/strong>. They also donated presents to Denver<\/strong>\u2019s Adams County School District 14 (see video above). Organizer and proposal coordinator, Katie DePorter, overwhelmed by her co-workers\u2019 generosity, said \u201cColorado knocked it out of the park! I am simply amazed and humbled that I work with such a caring group of people.\u201d  <\/p>\n

From our corporate headquarters in Broomfield<\/strong>, Total Awards director Tiffany Herron organized a toy collection for the Children\u2019s Hospital of Colorado<\/strong><\/a>. She has a personal connection \u2014 in January 2013, her son suffered second-degree burns on both hands and received three weeks of treatment from their burn clinic. Said Tiffany, \u201cI\u2019ll never forget the kindness and compassion the doctors and nurses at Children\u2019s showed our son and family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Holiday blood drive in Houston<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a great satisfaction knowing we can save lives and help our community,\u201d said Sam Rochet, Flatiron contract & claims specialist. Sam organized a holiday-themed blood drive with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center<\/a> in Houston<\/strong>, Texas<\/strong>. His high-school-aged daughter is a blood-donor event coordinator, which gave him the idea.<\/p>\n

Mid-Atlantic<\/h2>\n

Our North Carolina<\/strong>-area teams have partnered with Toys for Tots<\/a> since 2017. For the second year in a row, the NC-540<\/a> project team in Raleigh<\/strong> donated the most toys out of all Mid-Atlantic project teams. Additionally, our Morrisville <\/strong>office (see image at very top) nearly doubled its donation goal this year!<\/p>\n

Southwest<\/h2>\n

Donations from the Terminal 1 team<\/p><\/div>\n

Flatiron\u2019s Terminal 1<\/a> San Diego <\/strong>International Airport team and joint-venture partners Turner collected toys for Ronald McDonald House<\/a> and Toys for Tots in California<\/strong>. For those who wanted to contribute but didn\u2019t want to hit the malls, volunteer \u201celves\u201d were happy to do the shopping.<\/p>\n

Flatiron and architectural partner, Gensler<\/a>, hosted a book drive for San Diego\u2019s Voices for Children<\/a>. At their annual holiday party, foster children received a book, stuffed animal, pizza, and a visit with Santa.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles holiday toy giveaway<\/p><\/div>\n

Los Angeles District Nine Councilmember Curren D. Price, Jr. hosted a holiday toy giveaway in partnership with Flatiron and Balfour Beatty. The event also featured photos with Santa and the Grinch, pony rides, face painting, music and other family-friendly activities. <\/p>\n

Northwest<\/h2>\n

Sacramento<\/strong>, California, teams divided and conquered by supporting two charities. One group sorted, bagged and boxed fresh produce and non-perishable items for the Sacramento Food Bank<\/a>. The other partnered with the American Society for Preservation of Cruelty to Animals to collect blankets, towels, toys and pet food for sheltered animals.<\/p>\n

Folks from the Concord<\/strong>, California<\/strong>, office gathered toys around the Christmas tree for Toys for Tots.<\/p>\n

All smiles in Washington State<\/p><\/div>\n

Bellevue<\/strong>, Washington<\/strong>\u2019s Interstate 405<\/a> project team and joint-venture partners Lane Construction<\/a> collected toys for Treehouse<\/a> this holiday season. The non-profit helps give foster kids a childhood and a future by focusing on their specific educational needs. Human Resources manager and event coordinator Monika Katona says, \u201cThey help over 7,800 youth in foster care just in Washington state.\u201d<\/p>\n
