In late October, 2022 the team successfully completed the project&#8217;s first major milestone: a critical traffic shift on the eastbound and westbound lanes of US-70 at Wilson&#8217;s Mill Road. This traffic shift will allow construction of a second Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall that is necessary prior to construction of the first bridge over Wilson&#8217;s Mills Road.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;Successfully completing this shift is such a huge achievement for the project. It will allow for continued momentum throughout the winter and a strong transition into next spring. Congratulations to the entire project team for a job well done!&#8221; &#8211; Jose Hinojosa, Project Manager<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Awarded in early 2021, the US-70 Interchange Improvement Project will improve a 5-mile stretch of US-70 between Clayton, North Carolina and the Neuse River &#8211; just west of Smithfield, North Carolina.
