Vice President of Design Management &amp; Innovation Alicia Lopez has assumed a key role with the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).<\/p>\n<p>Lopez will serve on the influential organization\u2019s new National Virtual Design Committee (VDC) Committee. As the leader of Flatiron\u2019s innovation initiatives, she is a longtime supporter of developing VDC and Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Virtual design allows Flatiron to get a detailed look at a project before it begins. It allows problems to be identified before they actually exist in the physical world. For more on how Flatiron is using the technology, read this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flatironcorp.com\/news\/innovation-spotlight-virtual-design-construction-and-adam-miller\/\">spotlight<\/a> on its use at Flatiron\u2019s Denver International Airport work.<\/p>\n<p>As DBIA champions collaborative means of contract delivery, and VDC by its nature encourages collaboration, it\u2019s a natural fit for the technology to be on the organization\u2019s radar. \u201cVDC is more relevant in design-build and progressive design-build projects where Flatiron works closer with designers and project owners,\u201d Lopez explains.<\/p>\n<p>She received DBIA\u2019s official certification in 2020. She is also chair of their Rocky Mountain Transportation Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez is excited to begin her work on the national committee. \u201cInnovation drives excellence.
