{"id":5971,"date":"2021-12-06T13:23:33","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T20:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.flatironcorp.com\/?p=5971"},"modified":"2021-12-06T13:23:33","modified_gmt":"2021-12-06T20:23:33","slug":"flatiron-completed-state-route-20-timbuctoo-project-ahead-of-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flatironcorp.com\/news\/flatiron-completed-state-route-20-timbuctoo-project-ahead-of-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Flatiron Completed State Route 20 Timbuctoo Project Ahead of Schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a ribbon cutting ceremony that celebrated its substantial completion in July, the California State Route 20 Timbuctoo Roadway Improvement and Bridge Project has recently reached project completion in September 2021 \u2013 more than 30 days ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Flatiron is the prime contractor for the project that began in February 2020. The $34 million project is located a half-mile east of the Yuba River in eastern Yuba County, California. Work has included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrading a two-mile section of State Route 20 and straightening curves on a section of the highway.<\/li>\n<li>Widening segments of highway to create uniform 12-foot wide lanes and widening shoulders to a standard eight-foot width.<\/li>\n<li>Constructing a new bridge on the realigned section of the highway and increasing sight distances for motorists traveling on the highway.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The new roadway meets current 55-mph highway design standards and provides improved sightlines around curves, improved storm water drainage systems and updated safety barrier systems. Also, the new bridge enables wildlife to be more protected from the traveling public.<\/p>\n<p>The Flatiron team employed innovative approaches throughout the project. To better understand the subsurface conditions, the project team did test-drilling of rock layers and then modeled the rock layers into an earthwork model. This allowed the team to fine-tune project schedules, maximize equipment spread efficiency and improve cost effectiveness.
