"BARTFlatiron is nearing completion on the $373 million Oakland Airport Connector joint venture project for Bay Area Rapid Transit. The connector allows travelers to get more efficiently to the Oakland Airport. Currently travelers have to take a bus shuttle or taxi 3.2 miles from the Coliseum/Airport BART station to the airport; the OAC allows travelers to exit the trains and get on a new Automated People Mover directly to the airport via a mostly elevated guideway.

In June of 2013 the joint venture team turned over the maintenance facility, which houses most of the train’s operating equipment, to DCC, which allowed them to begin installation of their train operation equipment and system control facilities.

Over the next several months, crews have a big push to complete both end stations and all facilities to train operation so DCC can begin a 30-day system demonstration in September.

The OAC is currently scheduled to open prior to the holiday travel season in November.
